Description:
Join Jamie with Tetra Pak intaglio printing, often called milk carton etching, is an eco-friendly and affordable printmaking process that transforms recycled drink cartons into printing plates. Instead of using traditional metal plates such as copper or zinc, artists work with the foil- or plastic-lined surface of a used Tetra Pak carton. By scratching, carving, peeling, or embossing the material, they create recessed areas that hold ink. The plate is then inked, wiped, and run through a press or hand-burnished to transfer the image onto paper. This technique offers a sustainable introduction to intaglio printmaking while producing rich lines, textures, and tonal effects with readily available materials. It is suitable for beginners and experienced printmakers alike, emphasizing creative reuse and experimental mark-making.
